Sound Therapy

“A healthy organ or body part creates a natural resonant frequency in harmony with the rest of the body. When the vibration of a part of the body is out of harmony we can develop dis-ease. With dis-ease a sound pattern is made in the affected part of your body. When sound is projected into the dis-eased area, correct harmonic patterns can be restored. The human voice is perhaps the most powerful musical instrument, but crystal and Tibetan bowls are also very enormous.”

Sound Bath is a meditative musical experience from American/French/Basque Country-based artist and musician Maïa Ibar of International Integrators. A Sound Bath is a restorative sound voyage. Maïa will assist you to come into natural states of balance and harmony through tones, frequencies and sound in the comfort of your home. Sound therapy is well regarded for emotional healing, and relieving stress. The sound waves can act in a similar way to very deep tissue massage; they can help relax the body and mind.

Here is an excerpt from Maïa’s International Integrators blog post a few years back:

Bathing in Sound to Heal

In our online group sessions, you will lie down or sit in a comfortable position, if you have good headphones put them on and get warm and cozy. I will guide you through a little meditation/breath and then an hour of sound healing, using Crystal/Tibetan bowls, singing and shamanic healing essentially in tandem with “helper guides and spirits”.

In private sound bath online sessions, you can expect that we will talk a little bit about what is going on energetically, what you are ready to release and what your intentions are. Together we will look at the chakras (your energy centers) that seem to be blocked and how we can help clear them. Every session is unique but generally I will bring you through a little meditation and then will do an hour of sound healing via Crystal/Tibetan bowls, singing, different instrumentation and shamanic healing essentially in tandem with “helper guides and spirits”.

Here you can listen/buy some of the live sound baths they have recorded over the years at their space Pioche Projects called Four Winds Bath.

Maïa Ibar (b.1982) was born in Paris, FR and is Franco/Basque American. She lived in the U.S.A for thirty years, 14 of those years in Brooklyn, NY.  She now lives in Biarritz, a French Basque city long associated with its healing waters, and independent identity. It is in this culturally and energetically charged port that she co-founded Pioche Projects —a multi-functional arts and healing space in the city’s bohemian district—in 2014. At this unique public facility a core group of artists (including Ibar) occupy working studios from which a gamut of creative output emerges. Ibar’s studio work focuses on painting (in which she holds a master’s degree from the New York Studio School), songwriting (including ongoing music projects with her brother Baptiste Ibar called Dual Split and Lighter with Camilla Padgitt-Coles + Boshra AlSaadi) and performance.

It is in the spacious central hall of this complex that Ibar first started hosting public Sound Baths, after intensively studying the techniques and traditions that inform this specific holistic therapy. Ibar’s healing practice stems from her vast and multifaceted knowledge of music/shamanism which led her to the deep study of sound therapy ten years ago. Maïa first started working in sound therapy in Brooklyn, NY at Golden Drum and has been working with shaman/aromatherapist Maya Minwah and energy healer Jill Leigh for many years. Recently, during confinement in 2021 she did a nine week program at Soul Star Academy with Rakai’el Webb and Onji Love. In 2013 she co-founded International Integrators with Dr. Kathryn Hayward and other colleagues and have offered their tailored form of immersive healing at numerous international retreats, while continuing to give monthly Sound Baths in Biarritz, which have been received with great enthusiasm by the local community.
